Off The Rails
I wish I had gone off the rails before!
Stop the world! I wanna retire to a cabin in the foothills,
The door-mat is for muddy boots, not where the utility service put bills,
This will be my life ending, totally in control,
Prepare the slab where I must lie, oh bless my crooked soul!
Stop the car! You’ve gone too far, and go back round the roundabout,
I’m not so sure, I’ve seen something, I think I’ve finally found a doubt,
The gas utility billed me, the media has distilled me,
They’ve cleaned out what I once had, my governments’ nearly killed me…
Stop the bus! -oh driver give me time to find my feet,
I’m old you know, so drive off slow, I haven’t found a seat,
My brain’s as active as it used to be, a beat I’ll never miss,
But the stand-up comedy dictates that we all smell of piss!
Stop the tram! Ding! Ding! I want to sing to the nuts and bolts and nails,
Slam the tram into a pram or take it off the rails,
Off the rails! Off the rails! Let’s enjoy our eccentricity,
Old and mad, beautiful and bad, be sure to come and visit me…
Stop the train, I'm in pain and I want to disembark,
and drink tea with the elders in the village after dark,
With the locusts in the lamp-light & the crickets in the trees,
and an early fresh-fruit breakfast in a light savannah breeze!
