Album: There's A Star Spangled Banner

Veitnam Blues

I was on a leave at the time
Just ducking the fog
Nosing around like a hungry dog
In that crazy place called Washington DC

I saw a crowd of people
On the White House lawn
All carrying signs about veitnam
So I went over to see what was going on

It was a strange looking bunch
But then I never could understand some people

Well a fellow came to me with a list in his hand
He said we gathering names to send a telegram
of sympathy then he handed me a pen
I said "I reckon this is going to the kids and the wives
my friends over there that have given their lives"
He said "Naha buddy, this is going to Hochi Min"
I said "Hochi who?"
He said "Hochi min, peoples leader, north veitnam"

Well I wasnt real sure I was hearing him right
I thought I'd better move 'fore I get in a fight
Cuz my ears hurting and my pulse started hitting

Then I thought of another telegram I just read
Telling my buddys wife that her husband was dead
It wasnt very long that I was feeling downright sick
Another held a sign that said "We Wont Fight"
Then I thought to myself "Boy, ain't that right,
You'd rather let a soldier die instead."

I said it was a shame that every man
That died over there in that far off land
Died so that you wouldnt have to wake up dead
She looked at me like I was kind of crazy
Just another warmongher

Well, I left that place and went downtown
Hit the first bar taht I found
Cool myself off, pacify my brain

You see, I was on orders to Vietnam
Little old place, just north of Siagon
Had about an hour to catch myself a plane

So all I mean to say is, I dont like dying either,
But man, I aint gonna crawl.
