Somebody had noticed nesspapers and letters
building up outside and called the police

and searched for her pulse with his hairy hands.
A man in a uniform searched through her possessions
with the disapprov
ing eye of a customs man

straight out the back to flashing light
Her enemies and neighbours were gathered on the pavement
so amxious to see her in a different light
